In Loving Memory of My Grandmother, "Pearline Scott-Williams" RIP

Yesterday, I received sad news my grandmother Pearline Scott-Williams passed away. I knew that it could be any day for her, she had been sick for some time now. She had lived 91 years long, truly a blessing to reach age 90 or more. My grandmother taught me a lot about food, as well as her daughter my mother. Yes, that's my mother in the background behind my grandmother. Two of the best cooks of whom taught me so much about food. Grandma in particular taught me how to make her famous yams. She makes the best yams, every time she made them they would disappear quick! I remember going to the store buying some yams and heading over to my grandmother's house for her to show me step by step how she would make her yams. I had many days scheduled for visits to my grandmother's house just to learn how to make one of her dishes. I can say I had a lot of fun memories of my grandmother, memories of laughing, cooking, watching TV with her, even going to the stores to shop with her. My grandmother loved to shop, and had a fashionable wardrobe too.
I am so grateful for the time I shared with my grandmother and for the time I was able to talk to her on the phone. As my grandmother's health began to deteriorate her memory was some what going too. But she was still sharper than a whip, she just had short term memory by repeating the conversations we had over and then she would laugh and say, "I just said that didn't I" both of us laughing and just enjoying each other on the phone. In her last days I would stay on the phone with her for at least an hour or more. I thank God for the times we had on the phone in her last days, with her living in Ann Arbor, Michigan and me being in Texas was hard for me when I couldn't tell her any more that I will be over tomorrow to see her. She would ask me on the phone every conversation we had, "When are you coming to Michigan?" I would say, soon as the airline tickets go down they're too high right now. She would then say, "yeah those darn tickets are just too high" and then we would continue on talking. The last time I heard my grandmother's voice it was in June and we talked and while preparing to get off the phone one thing grandma would say was, "Well my dear, it was so good talking to you again. I look forward in talking to you soon, I love you." Grandma will truly be missed, I am blessed and honored to be her grand daughter, her "China Doll or her Deb-do."
