Spaghetti For Dinner

Did you know... Eating tomato sauce twice a week could reduce the risk of men developing prostate cancer by up to a third, according to new research. American experts, who carried out one of the biggest studies into the benefits of a tomato-rich diet involving almost 50,000 men, are urging males to eat more tomatobased products. Although previous studies have found that tomato sauce has health benefits, this is the first to suggest that even small, regular doses can protect against the cancer that affects one in 12 men. The secret lies in lycopene - an antioxidant in the skin of tomatoes - which makes them red. Scientists already suspect that lycopene is packed with diseasefighting properties and that it is easier for the body to absorb it in the form of ketchup rather than raw tomatoes. Dr Edward Giovannucci, a nutrition expert at Harvard Medical School who led the 12-year study, said ketchup is an ideal source of lycopene because it carries high concentrations of the...

Peach Cobbler Arkansas Style

A good friend showed me how to make Peach Cobbler the quick easy way Arkansas style. Whipping up a homemade Peach Cobbler is nothing for me, homemade crust and all. But when you don't feel like making that homemade crust, you can use "Crescent Rolls" from the can. Yes, I was impressed when my friend pulled her Arkansas Cobbler out the oven. The flavor was just like a Peach Cobbler, I had to try her version. So I did, and wow was I surprised at how well the Cobbler came out and tasted.  Simply make your pie filling, and pour your filling in a deep dish and roll your Crescent Rolls in a single file layering them on top of your pie filling. Bake until golden brown on 375

Black Tea and Antioxidants

Black Tea and Antioxidants Black tea contains a number of antioxidants, which are compounds that help the body fight free radicals (chemical by-products known to damage DNA). These antioxidants include quercetin, a substance said to combat inflammation and support healthy immune function. Black Tea Benefits Here's a look at the science behind black tea's health effects: 1) Black Tea and Cardiovascular Health To date, research on black tea's cardiovascular benefits has yielded mixed results. For instance, a 2009 review of nine previously published studies (including a total of nearly 195,000 participants) concluded that drinking three cups of black or green tea daily reduced risk of stroke by 21 percent. However, a 2007 study of 31 adults (ages 55 and older) found that six months of black-tea consumption did not significantly influence any cardiovascular risk factors (such as inflammation and systolic blood pressure). Both the National Center for Complementary and A...

Freshly Made Salsa with Nutritional Values

Health benefits of Tomato Very low in calories and fats; but rich source of dietary fiber, minerals, vitamins; recommended in cholesterol controlling and weight reduction programs. The antioxidants present in tomatoes are found to be protective against many cancers including colon, prostate, breast, endometrial, lung, and pancreatic cancers. Phytochemicals present in tomatoes like Lycopene and carotenoids have the ability to help protect cells and other structures in the body from oxygen free radicals. Red varieties of tomatoes are especially rich in the most powerful flavonoid antioxidant lycopene. Studies have shown that lycopene protects skin damage from UV rays and from prostate cancer. Zeaxanthin, another flavonoid compuond, helps protect eyes from "age related macular disease" (ARMD) in the elderly persons by filtering harmful ultra-violet rays. This veggie contains very good levels of vitamin A, and flvonoid anti-oxidants such as alpha and beta caro...

One of My Passions...

I have many passions, my first is Photography something I started doing at 9 years old. I remember buying my first Camera with the cube flash that fitted nice and snug on top of the Camera. I think I was more fascinated by the flash cube when the flash went off than I was with the Camera itself. As I got older, I became curious as to how the film actually worked, how pictures were captured on film in that little black box. In Junior High School I joined the Year Book Club and from there moving on to High School I decided to take a class in Photography. I had Beginning Photography, where I learned the basics such as what the ASA was and f/stop and so on. I even learned how to develop film in the dark room, that was awesome! I was so intrigued by what I was learning not to mention I was acing the class and my Teacher used my work as an example.  So I don't bore you to death, I ended up taking more classes in Photography and here I am a Co Owner of a Pho...

The Dove...

After Church services this morning, my eyes captured this Dove quietly resting in this tree. I had to take this picture. Thus says the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one says, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all. Isaiah 65:8
